This Summer the members of the Ajax Garden Club participated in a “Soil Your Undies” experiment. At the beginning of July we planted white cotton underwear in our gardens and left them buried 6″ deep for 2 months.
Once removed from the soil, the underwear shows how much insect and microbial activity has taken place, showing the health of your soil. Here are results from some club members.
As you can see in 2 cases all that remained was the elastics. The others suffered large areas of loss and shredding.
The locations of the experiment were 2 locations in SW Ajax, 1 in SE Ajax, 2 close to the Town Hall and 1 in NW Ajax. It appears that we all have healthy soil.
